GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY VILLAGE FAQ
Am I eligible for accommodation at the Village?
All registered students at Griffith University are eligible to apply for accommodation at the Village. This is irrespective of whether you are a full time, part-time, undergraduate or postgraduate student or a research assistant. Teachers and tutors at Griffith University are also eligible to apply.
Are pets allowed?
There is a strict no pets policy at GUV. This includes goldfish and birds.
How much does it cost?
Individual costs will vary between room types at the Village. Prices are set to ensure that the Village is competitive and affordable for students who are looking for on-campus accommodation. Click here for a detailed list of all fees and charges.
Is accommodation offered for the acedemic year or calendar year?
Whilst some other accommodation providers offer on a semester basis, like private accommodation in the area, the Village will run on a calendar year basis. In order to allow residents to have constant access to their rooms and Village facilities throughout the year, all residents will be required in their Residential Agreement to pay fees and charges over 52 weeks. Residents who do not wish to stay in the Village over the summer holiday period may vacate their room and make the room available for the Village management to let out over the summer for conferences or to visitors to Sydney. A rebate proportional of the residential fee will be paid dependent on the occupancy of all pooled rooms during the summer period.
Can my partner live with me?
Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends will be able to apply for accommodation at the Village as long as they are students of Griffith University. Rooms will be allocated per person. Couples will be provided with individual rooms and will not be permitted to share a room, however, couples can request to be allocated rooms in the same apartment.
Can I choose the people I will live with? (Apartment sharing and room-mates)
The Village provides a unique living environment. Residents will be living with a culturally diverse mix of people from around Australia and internationally. Upon acceptance to the Village you may identify if you have preferences about sharing an apartment with a friend. The Village will consider all requests but cannot promise they will be fulfilled. It is highly unlikely that a group of five friends will be allocated rooms in the same five-bedroom apartment.
Are priorities given to particular students?
The Village will host a culturally diverse range of residents and we see this as a true strength of the community. Students are welcome to apply for residency from all corners of the world and throughout Australia. It is our intention to encourage undergraduates and post graduates into the Village, but no one group will be given preference over others. It is for this reason that we ask all applicants to complete the relevant forms as early as possible. When we have no rooms available we will close applications.
How close is the Village to campus?
The Village is located on the Griffith University campus. It takes approximately 10mins to walk to the opposite side of campus and 5 minutes to the University's library.
Does the Village clean my room?
Cleaning of the rooms and apartments within the Village is the responsibility of the occupants of those rooms or apartments. In the interests of hygiene and in consideration of your co-residents there is an expectation that rooms and apartments will be maintained in a neat and tidy condition. A cleaning service is available at a fee for any person who does not wish to clean his or her own room. Full apartment cleaning is also available with the cost shared between all residents of the apartment.
Will the Village provide tutorials?
The Village is not tutoring in any subjects but does provide a residential assistance program. This program is managed by the Village Director, and involves a number of Resident Assistants who live in the Village. Senior residents are welcome to apply for positions as Resident Assistants at the Village. Details of what this entails, are available from Village Administration.
